How to Get the CM Fund

If you or someone in your family is suffering from a serious illness, you can apply for the CM Fund. To do this, you need to obtain an estimate from the hospital, provide the patient’s Aadhaar card, income certificate, and a written application. You need to take all these documents to your local district office and submit them online. Verification by the accountant follows, and the government sends the treatment money to your hospital. If you wish to apply for other services, you can see the process below.

The process and eligibility criteria for receiving assistance from the Chief Minister’s (CM) Fund vary by state. However, this fund is generally available to economically weaker and needy individuals.

Main areas of assistance

Treatment of serious illnesses: Medical assistance for cancer, heart disease, kidney disease, and other major illnesses.

Natural disasters: Relief to those affected by floods, droughts, fires, or other unforeseen accidents.

Other Essential Assistance: In some states, it may also provide assistance for education or other special needs.

Eligibility and Documents for Receiving the CM Fund

Most states require certain general conditions and documents to receive assistance:

Residential Proof: The applicant/patient must be a resident of that state.

Income Proof: Your annual income must be below a certain threshold (this threshold varies by state, such as ₹1 lakh or ₹2.5 lakh).

Application Form: A formal application addressed to the Chief Minister, clearly stating the need for assistance.

Proof of Identity and Address: Aadhaar Card, Voter ID, or other identification document.

Medical Documents (if for treatment):

Estimated Cost of Treatment from the Hospital

Bank Account Statement: A copy of the first page of the beneficiary’s active savings bank account passbook (clearly showing the account number and IFSC code).

Application Process (General Steps)

Application: You must submit a formal application to the Chief Minister’s Office or the relevant department (such as the Health Department).

Many states have now also introduced the facility to apply through online portals (such as the ‘Saral Portal’ in Haryana), making the process simple and transparent.

MLA/MP Recommendation: In some states, you are required to obtain a recommendation letter from your local MLA or Member of Parliament (MP) for your application.

Verification: Your application and attached documents are verified by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

Approval and Payment: If the application is approved, the assistance amount is transferred directly to the beneficiary’s bank account.
